If i were a teacher in Second Life...

I would arrange for field trips to take the entire class to events such as speeches, museum walk-throughs, baseball games and so on. I would then have them write me reports from what they have learned in this experience. Also tell me if they enjoy doing this kind of activity of if they prefer the traditional way of class in a classroom lecture. For the final I would have them do a research paper on which ever place we had visited and have them tell me everything they could about it such as what it is, where it is, who created it and when, so on and so forth...

Introduction to Essay

Many people do not realize all the activities and entertainment that goes on in SecondLife. There are so many things to do you could sit online for hours and hours and always have something new to do. You can do exciting things like attend sporting events like baseball and even take real batting practice. If you feel like being a little more active you can head on over to a club and interact and dance with hundreds of people. You may also want to just go and relax and have some drinks at the local bar and maybe play some pool. All this and much more entertainment is available all at the tips of your fingertips and in the privacy of your own home in SecondLife.

Exploration Assignment

Exploration Assignment

When being in SecondLife, there are many places that you can visit and do just about whatever you want. I have been to a few places for this exploration assignment and they all seem to be very interesting and unique in their own ways. You can even go to places to find out information
about specific things. Who would have thought that you can do such a thing through an online virtual reality environment? I started this assignment off in Svarga.

When I first arrived at Svarga it is a mountainous area with a lake of some sort. When I went to find the oracle it says she is not currently available to give me a fortune. I am in Svarga rather late tonight and I haven’t seen any other avatars yet. I played the big drums at the entrance of the castle, I believe they were called Elven Low-Timp. I also chose to play Elven Horn. After I was done here I went straight for a place called InfoIsland.

All I see when I arrive here is some walkways and a few buildings and some other structures. I first saw a familiar thing when I saw a baseball diamond and since I play baseball here at UCM I figured that’s where I would head to first. When I started exploring this, it just gave me information about baseball and baseball news and even baseball stuff in Japan. After there I headed for the hot air balloon which took me for a tour of info island. After seeing the island I wanted to head towards something that I saw on the tour, which happened to be the island information center which I interactive with the objects to receive interesting things about this place. I then proceeded to find the museum of music where it told me just about anything and everything there is to know about music and its history. Interesting stuff but time to move on to the next place, Greenies.

When I got to greenies I am in a building with a hallway and there is several things that are the color green around me. I believe this sim is some kind of group that when you join you change your avatar into a little green person. Then you can “have fun.” When I reach the main center of this place it seems like a room where you can buy different avatars for yourself that are green and resemble characters like Dracula and a wizard and such. After all the things about greenies and the locked places unless you are a greenie I traveled to Themiskyra.

This place looks like a little village with some very interesting things in it. I took a picture by a fish tank looking thing that has what looks like a shark in it swimming around. I believe this sim seems like it would be here to come and relax. Surina Skallarimson constructed this sim. It has very detailed cottages that would resemble old homes and buildings. At the conclusion of this sim that wraps up my exploration assignment.

Let Me Introduce my Second Self

I have tried to make my avatar as much like me as I possibly could. It is rather difficult though. I made he fairly tall, brown hair, and athletic. The first impression of the avatar that was assigned to me at first I really thought it looked like a girl. I just started tweaking some of the adjustments so that it looked at close to me as possible.

I use the same one just about everytime I enter second life. I'm not much of the change it everyday kind of person. I was just striving for a somewhat similar look to myself and I believe that I got close enough for me.

I have not asked anyone anything about my appearance. I actually just got done trying to figure out how to do it so haven't really had anytime. Maybe I will ask around and see what people think.

I haven't spent anything on modifying my appearance. I guess I'm all natural.

I am happy for the time being. As I learn new things in secondlife I may change a few things here and there.

I haven't seen or heard of anything that I can change yet although there are probably many things to do once you have some money. Maybe I will learn of these things and start changing stuff.

I have started to use the "f" buttons which I found out that some make you dance and some make you laugh and such. Pretty interesting things you can do here in SecondLife.
